Greetings from the Hess Cancer Foundation!
We hope this message finds you happy, healthy, and well, and that you had a great 4th of July.
On June 11th, the Hess Cancer Foundation had a great time at Wing Nutz Restaurant in Park City. For the second year in a row, the Wing Nutz Wylde Ride proved to be a great success and was able to raise a large amount of money, which was all donated to the Hess Cancer Foundation. We want to thank them again for such a generous donation and encourage all of you to find an evening to spend at Wing Nutz. They know how to make some EXCELLENT food, provide a great atmosphere, and give you a good time, and they have also really helped us with our cause.
Our next event is coming up this Saturday, July 16. BBSC is hosting the Scofield Triathlon, and the Hess Cancer Foundation has agreed to provide volunteers for the triathlon. Part of the proceeds of the Scofield Triathlon will be donated to the Hess Cancer Foundation. All of the volunteers are camping together at Old Folks Flat Friday night, which is near Scofield. We’re having a barbeque Friday evening, then Saturday morning we’re heading out to volunteer at Scofield. BBSC is kind enough to provide all the volunteers with breakfast and lunch on Saturday. WE COULD REALLY USE YOUR HELP, AND WE HAVE ROOM FOR YOU! If you would like to come with us for an exciting weekend of camping, free dinner, breakfast, and lunch, and a free t-shirt, please give me a call at 801-520-9755.
On a more serious note, about two or three weeks ago Primary Children’s Hospital called me, letting me know that they had a family that could really use our help. The family had a daughter who had been fighting cancer for months and was losing the battle. They said that their child didn’t have much more time. She ended up dying last Sunday, and we had just received the donation from Wing Nutz, which allowed us to provide financial assistance to her family. Thus far, this family makes the 19th family we have helped, and while I feel sincere emphathy for the family, I am also very grateful that we were able to help them in their time of need.
Last of all, some information about me. As you may know, I was diagnosed with cancer in September of 2010. This was the third life-threatening diagnosis I have faced, and the tenth time I’ve been diagnosed with cancer. I just finished my chemo treatments in May and my hair is starting to finally come back, which is good news. Much better news is that the tumor has shrank from the size of a softball to the size of a pea. This was such great news to all of us and we have very high hopes that the good Lord still has something for me to do. Last weekend I participated in my first triathlon since chemo, and while I wasn’t anywhere near my best time, I was able to complete it and feld very good afterwards. It made me so grateful that I’m feeling like my old self again! I want to thank all of you for your encouragement, your prayers, and you faith, and I want to give credit where credit is due – the good Lord has saved me again, and I thank and praise him for it.
Let’s keep working together. As a team we can really make a difference.
